The city is so beautiful . . .
Raining again.

Strolling down the street,
The buildings slowly rise and flank me
To embank the sun on either side;
A slingshot for the golden stone
Crashing to our homes.

Lookit the rainbow!
Someone must have torn it from the sky,
For there it lays!
Twisting down the road,
The ragged streamers hung from tailpipes;
Follow their frolic; you will find a pot

Of sewage

With bars across the lid.

Still, it is a great day to be alive, the proof is all around you:
Observe the friendly puddle-sucking dogs;

They’re always smiling,

Grinning wildly with their teeth,
So you proffer a treat;
Then
They
Choke it all on down
Like they’re
Hacking it back up.

Piper, please lead this stray rat away
To the world you see.
Play your music,
For I am blind: beauty is lost on me.
