This poem was inspired by my grandad, who died just before I was born.
I dreamed that you stood beside me
In your arms a sled
Your button-up jacket upon my shoulders
Your driving cap upon my head.

I dreamed that we would wander the woods
The leaves singing above
I would hum a little tune
As you would murmur, "My little love."

I dreamed that you would sing me to sleep
Your songs lost in the sea
I dreamed that you were jolly and well
Though it was never meant to be.

I dreamed that I knew you well
And that our heartache would mend
I dreamed that you were oh so young
That we were both together again.
