A poem about getting away from something painful. Running away.
There’s revolution in the air,
Carried to your bed
By the draft from the window.
Something happened outside,
Some fighting in the streets,
Broken wicker reindeer in the road
Full of shattered lights.

You changed your number,
Slept elsewhere,
Burnt your identity.
Pretend to be that guy from years ago,
When make believe was okay
And it didn’t matter who you were.

She won’t find you here,
And even if she did
You have enough ammunition
To blow a hole in her sky,
And make sure the rain falls forever.
She won’t risk it this time.

“Sometimes all I want is him,
Other times all I want is you”
Resonates inside,
Stuck like that song you love to hate.
But she’s allergic to the light
So the streets are safe for now.

Nobody remembers the past or the truth anymore.
So many versions, so many dreams that never happened,
And nightmares that did every day.
All you can do is run.
Run away.
And try not to trip,
Try not to fall,
Try your best to jump the barricade.
