Poem based on a story that I wrote
Deep in the darkness of my mind, the voices talk to me all the time.
Look at the children living up the street.
Screaming, crying and running away from me.
Mom and dad always come to see, why their children are afraid of me.

The boogeyman is coming!
That is what they hear.
But, it really doesn’t matter, if you shed a tear.
The boogeyman’s not someone that they have learned to fear.

“Back to sleep.” is what they say. Tomorrow is going to be a brand new day.
Then they turn and walk away.
Pull the covers up over your head, close your eyes and pray you’re not dead.

The boogeyman’s not coming,
the boogeyman is here!

I’ll make it real quick, for the children who see.
As I disappear, they cry to get away from me.
When the daylight comes, they laugh with cheer and wonder if there is reason to fear.

The boogeyman’s not coming,
the boogeyman is here!
Only it’s not the children, who need to fear.

I have a little garden that you can tend. Mom and dad, can even lend a hand.
You’ll have so much fun, you won’t be able to leave. We’ll be so close,
just like a family. Mommy and daddy, and you, and me.
And no one will be able to see, that the boogeyman is really me!

The boogeyman’s not coming,
the boogeyman is here!
Only it’s not the children who need to fear.

Late at night, when the screams ring out clear. They’ll be so surprised, when they realize, that it’s them they hear!
