This is the first chapter to my novel. I hope you all like it.
Which choice to choose? Go to England to study photography and human relations, or stay here in America as a waitress? I would probably be stubborn and choose England, but the only problem with that is I would leave my old life and my friends. I shook my head furiously, not noticing people where watching me. I sighed heavily and went back to my writings. If I choose to stay, my life will be more depressing and I will also have to deal with my family. I blinked as a mental image formed in head, of my mom yelling at me for something idiotic,

“Gosh!”

I ruffled my hair and leaned back. I aimlessly looked around the internet café. Unfamiliar faces. I yawned and stretched. I was tired. As I lowered my arms down and looked at my watch. 2:30.

“Great…”

I turned off my laptop, unplugged the battery supply, packed the computer in my back, and left the building. Right now I was on my way to work (I didn’t tell where I work, I work at Applebees.) My shift supposedly starts at 3:30. I kept on walking; I ignored the raging drivers that were passing by. I hate the city and I hate the people mainly. They’re too stupid and arrogant for my standards. I also hate cars that blast music, they should make it illegal. The honking I can probably deal with. It doesn’t happen as much and it doesn’t really bother me. I entered reality and started to concentrate on where I was going. Almost to my apartment. About three minutes later, I came across a small complex of apartments. The décor was too bright for my taste like purple, yellow, red flowers swaying a little in the breeze, and the grass freshly cut. I don’t even remember how I ended up here. I shrugged as I tugged on the door leading into the main lobby. The cool air refreshed my mood. I slightly smiled and walked forward and then to the right of an elevator. I pushed the up button, I waited. I checked my watch, I was getting anxious 3:00

“Come on…”

finally the door opened and I swiftly walked in. As I was in, I started searching for a number, “Ah! Here it is.” I pressed the 5. I leaned back and closed my eyes, feeling the elevator going up. It felt awkward. I started to replay a thought that was irritating me. It was about a guy who loved up on me and in just seconds, he hits me hard enough, that I fall backwards. I landed on my side. I opened my eyes and shook my head. The elevator stopped and opened it’s steal doors. I walked out, and jogged to my door. My apartment was on the right side of the building and the 3 door down. When I reached my door, I noticed the vivid details that were marked on it. It was really beautiful. I took my key out of my pocket and placed it in the keyhole and turned it. I opened the door. The place was dark and the air smelled like peaches. It was new air freshener that I bought a few days ago. I struggled my way in, avoiding tripping over boxes. Finally, I found the light switch and flicked it on. The room lit up instantly. I loved my apartment, it was like my haven. It was the way I wanted it, and every time I have a problem, it soothes me. But, that was going to change now, I might be moving away to England in a small cottage by the beach. I wasn’t so sure if I was going. I packed up my things just in case, saving the trouble by not having enough time. It doesn’t hurt to be prepared. I placed my computer bag into a small box next to my dining table and went into the kitchen. I saw about a dozen cans of wet food on the counter. I left those out, only because I have to take care of my baby and I don’t like searching through boxes. It’s just like my clothes, haven’t packed those yet either. I saw my cat, Frenchi, who was a mix of Siamese and calico. She’s the most laid-back cat I ever met. When I found her, she was very skinny like a toothpick and she had a gaping hole in her ear. I couldn’t leave her. What can I tell you? I’m a sucker for animals. My landlord said that I could keep her, only if she doesn’t leave my apartment. I agreed instantly. So then on out, I’ve taken care of her, making sure was getting regular vet check-ups, food, and water. You can also say that she was keeping my company in this lonely house. Mainly, she was my only ‘real’ friend. I looked down at the floor; I could tell that she was hungry. About five minutes later, I left my kitchen that contained a very happy cat. I sighed and scratched my stomach. I shuffled myself to my bedroom. I entered and instantly took my shirt and jeans off, leaving me with only my bra and panties. When I reached for my shirt, the phone rang. About the second ring I answered.

“This is Miranda speaking.”

“It’s Rob. I’m calling to say that you can take the night off. We have enough waiters and waitresses.”

”Thanks.”

There was an awkward silence.

“See you tomorrow then.”

“Ok, bye.”

I hung up the phone and went to my closet. “This will work,” I said quietly. I pulled out my sweats and placed them on. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and walked. I stopped and looked at the mirror that I passed. I noticed a girl with Auburn hair that doesn’t glisten in the sun. It was too long and very ratty. Then the eyes made me smile, slightly. They were hazel. But, then my smile vanished. I looked down and saw her body was petite, slightly overweight about five pounds. I bet the girl hates herself. Her thoughts probably telling her over and over that she was too short, fat, and very ugly; I wondered if she was imagining herself tall and average weight. They would probably notice her more. I stepped back and turned away the mirror. It was showing my true form. It was very depressing, thinking that your ugly and you don’t belong here. I always thought of it. Later that night, I was wandering around my aimlessly, I had nothing to do. I mean, I don’t need to pack right now, I’m not hungry, no work, and my cat is sleeping soundly on the couch. I groaned and whined. It was so boring. I sat down on the couch and closed my eyes; I was drifting off into a deep slumber, until the phone rang again. I picked it up,

“Hello?”

“Miranda, it’s me Bethany.”

“Hi, Beth.”

“Do you want to come over to my apartment downstairs and hang out?”

I thought for a second and smiled.

“Sure, I’ll be down in a few.”

“Cool, oh! I have some other friends here. You can introduce yourself.”

I heard a click on the other and I hung up the phone. “Finally, something do,” I said to myself. I quickly changed clothes and walked of my apartment, and down to the elevator. I stood there quietly, so I don’t have to feel awkward about the couple standing beside me. They were arguing about their children and how they don’t behave properly. I feel sorry for them. I really do. I got off on the forth floor and stepped out, I started looking for Beth’s number. For seconds, I wandered around the two hallways, and then I found hers. I knocked. There wasn’t a response, until a minute later a girl with long blonde hair and skin the color of the moon. She hugged me, I hugged back. It was nice to see her again,

“Hey, Beth.”

“Hey, come on in.”

She replied back as I stepped into the air-conditioned room. I could see five other people sitting on the couch. One with orange hair that came to his neck, one with black hair that came to his ear, one with multi colored hair that went in different directions, another one with blonde hair and his hair was the normal, and the last one with brown hair that came to her back. I felt Beth’s arm on my shoulder,

“This is Tony, Danny, Gwen, Steven, and Melissa.” She said as she smiled.

“Hi,”

I said quietly. I took my place at the empty spot located on the couch, which was right next to Danny. He smiled at me.

“Guys, this is Miranda. We have known each other ever since high school. She’s very talented and very single.”

She winked at the guys. I started to blush. I could see that the boys were laughing and smiling.

“Beth, I—

“Miranda, you need a guy in your life. You’re so lonely these days and ever since-“

“Don’t bring that subject up, Beth…”

I quickly looked down as I fiddled with my fingers.

“What happened?”

Melissa asked me softly. I shifted my eyes to her and closed them.

“I really don’t want to talk about it, but lets just say my relationship with a guy didn’t turn out so well.”

“What did he do?”

I sighed deeply and tried to bring back the painful memories. I really didn’t want to talk about it. It was getting into my personal life.

“I’m not ready to tell you, I just met you.”

“Oh, I’m sorry…”

“No, it’s okay.”

I smiled to reassure her. She smiled back and looked at Steven, which he was completely ignoring her.
