1st Place in Poetry Prism is Back . . . Child Abuse
Shattered

Rotting, festering flesh of the spirit,
eating away at happiness and peace,
harvest of hate and revenge.

Self-loathing, more putrid
than the stench of the
one who steals the light.

Self-imposed indictment,
spiritual disease,
ravaged remains of forgotten joy.

Penicillin for these maladies,
let go of the evil inflicted,
a slow and painful healing.

Open the heart to forgiveness,
enough to wake the dying soul,
perhaps to heal the broken will.

God have mercy on victims of child abuse;
give them a voice to scream out their rage,
and bless them with courage to forgive and heal.
