One Challenge to a Marriage
Struggled in vain with all my might
Yet lost all efforts to keep emotions tight
Blessed was I when all became right
Oh, my love rewarded with hers so bright

Mutual love and respect was our due
Renewed afresh daily by the morning dew
Love grounded deep without any hue
Expressed in ways that nothing else imbue

Our love we continued to profess
Our love, our vows; no plans to reverse
We loved even under duress
Our hearts together forever as in verse

Love covered us day and night
Like honeymooners on our maiden night
T’was like when we first sight
Till the other came in with emotional bite

Trouble was looming; we had no clue
Seemed yet another story in our long queue
Told to each other between the pew
But this one story was not to be a humor cue

Never was about a devil in blue dress
Might as well have been considering the mess
Indeed there was nothing to confess
Yet the tension was high, we needed redress

The first time our love’s been thus tested
Tough but love committed remains untainted
Recognizing this as love interrupted!
A blip in our path that should be conquered

We work now toward hearts contrite
Whate’er form it takes that’ll make us tight
The love that lifted us on first sight
Should see us through to a future so bright
