saying goodbye to the first love
Goodbye, my love
Goodbye to the mornings, the sun rising and shining its light on your sleeping face
Goodbye to the good morning kiss
Goodbye to the goodbye kiss
At the airport, it was the last time
You hugged me and promised to be with me
You looked into my eyes
The lies in them
They were caught in a veil of fear
I couldn’t see it
The fear
Hidden in the depths where even you couldn’t find them
Goodbye to our hands touching in the darkness
Knowing you’d be there
Goodbye to your promise
Goodbye to wedding plans
I don’t miss you all the time
You never miss me
You miss someone beside you
I loved you more than you loved me
Same old story
What was I thinking?
There is never enough time
It is never the right time
Goodbye to hellos and I-love-you's
Goodbye to movies and popcorn and candy
Goodbye to dinners at 10
Goodbye to mornings without alarm clocks
Goodbye to mornings with them
Goodbye to the 2am phone calls
Goodbye to the 4pm ones
Goodbye to TV and video games and iPods
Goodbye to strokes through my hair and dragons and never-ending stories
Our story had to end this way
I thought it would be never-ending
I thought many things
Goodbye to friendship and coffee and beer
Goodbye to antacids and pink fluids
Goodbye to salt and handcuffs
Goodbye to moaning and screaming and laughing and crying
Goodbye to kneeling and riding
Goodbye to numbers
Goodbye to music and mouthpieces and tuners and transcriptions
You never wrote a song for me
You never brought me breakfast in bed
Goodbye to roses, sweet and thorny
Goodbye to apologies and forgiveness
Goodbye to walking away, to thundering, to wailing
Goodbye to resentment and hate and anger
Goodbye to love
Goodbye to hotel room sex and take-out pizza
Goodbye to the orient at our door
I never did like airports
Goodbye to our blue coffee cups and our spoons
Goodbye to walking in the park, dancing, laughing
Goodbye to hugging and smelling your neck
You smelled so good...
My throat gets hot
My tears run down my face
My heart cries
I am thankful for the pain
It makes me human
I can feel
Goodbye to you and me
Goodbye to our love
Goodbye to the burning sun dying in the west
I need to look towards the east. I need to look for the new sun
So I need to say goodbye to you
Goodbye, my love
