Death of a heroin addict
Some mornings I use to wake up early
Bring my little children to this park
So my husband could sleep
Without being disturbed
We had to be so quiet
In the early morning hours
We must not wake up Daddy
Sometimes he gets so angry
He yells at Mommy
She says he doesn't feel well
He never does it seems
In the early morning hours
We have to be so quiet
Often we go to the park
Sometimes we pack a lunch
Stay until almost dark
By the time that we get home
He could be in a good mood
Perhaps a bad one
We never really know
Sometimes Daddy yells at Mommy
But not anymore
You see, Daddy died a while back
They say it was a heart attack
But Mommy knows the truth
Daddy was addicted to heroin
He shot it in his veins every day
So sad the way he chose to die
Sometimes Mommy cries
