The Second chapter in the series The Adventures of Konette
The Adventures of Konette

Wheeling her horse to the left, she plunged off the trail and into the forest. “This iscrazy,” she thought as she ducked her head narrowly missing a tree limb. She had no ideahow she was going to get it back, but decided the best thing to do was to go back and see,if by some miracle it was still there. The woods became denser as she tried to veer left in order to reenter the valley. “This isn’t working,” she mumbled to herself.

She could tellthe dogs were gaining on her; her horse struggled in getting through the dense trees.Daring a glance over her shoulder, her worst fears were realized, the dogs were closer than she thought. She knew there was no outrunning them. Glancing ahead, she noticed a rather large low limb. With a quick thought she raised her slender form to a standing position on the saddle. The limb drew closer. Leaping from the saddle she grabbed the limb and swung her legs over.

She climbed swiftly up the tree to be out of site of the dogs and the other riders. Konette looked down as she noticed the dogs streaking by still following the abandoned horse. As she clutched the tree tighter, her head began to spin. One thing Konette could not cope with easily was heights. Remembering the riders were coming, she climbed higher in order not to be seen She reached a firm limb and situated herself where she knew she would not be easily seen. Just then the riders trotted by on their horses, unable to go any faster due to the thick woods. She held her breath as they passed and hugged the tree hoping her leather clothes would blend easily.

Once they had passed Konette breathed a sigh of relief. She decided she must wait until dark to recover the pack, there was to great a risk of being seen to go out into the field in daylight. As she sat in the tall tree she reflected on her mission.

The item that was in the pack was extremely important to the cause in which she served. It contained a map. Not just any map but the map to the Valley of Truth, a place where all evil would be cast out and the human race could live in peace and harmony forever. The People that found this place it was said would know all the knowledge there was to know of life and live as the rulers of the Lands of Siddel. She had been assigned to recover this map from the enemy by the
Leaders.

The Leaders were three of the greatest and wisest men alive. There were once five Leaders but fifteen years ago when Konette was only two years old one of the mightiest, Lord Cynric betrayed the others and slaughtered another Leader, his brother Lord Kester, and almost all of his family. Konette hated Lord Cynric with all the hate she
had in her. Lord Kester had been her Father.

Lord Cynric had divided himself from the good kingdom of Deverell and gathered followers taking over almost all of the Lands of Siddel. He had made his empire in the North Lands calling it Hildemar. It was at the outer posts of this kingdom that Konette had been sent to. The Leaders had told her it was of extreme importance that she bring the map back undiscovered. Unfortunately she had already failed, but she was determined not to return empty handed. She would steal it back tonight, she had done it once why not twice? But deep down Konette knew only to well that the enemy would not make the same mistake twice by leaving it so unprotected
again. As the sun sank down over the horizon Konette pondered how she would retrieve the map.
