A ridiculous poem about the absurd
Fiction withers when compared to the truth.
The evening news is like a broken tooth.
They end each show with a story so sweet.
But it masks a day that was not tidy or neat.

They attacked us from a foreign place.
The attacker wears the devil's face.
We chose to fight back but why did we bother,
to settle a score with the enemy of his father?

All the while our destruction is scattered,
as life and emotions lay silent or battered.
The old retires to irrelevant speeches.
The new takes over and fights off the leeches.

It's like that broken tooth now throbbing with pain.
We wince with agony as it radiates again.
Can we open our minds and learn from mistakes?
Or do we sit and tally the toll that it takes?

An advent of hope has come over the nation.
Watch our new man as he takes his high station.
Tomorrow we shall see what yesterday finished.
Our children will perish on the planet diminished.

Stop and take stock of the things that matter.
We consume to the max and get frail and fatter.
The planet, a country, your body, your mind.
Start small and make better any space you can find.
