Dwelling on the warmth of a forgotten photograph, and the friend who has forgotten me.
Yellowed paper.
Warmed smiles
Crunchled memories.
See you there, between the trees,
those broken victories?

Gaze closer,
take a look,
maybe there you'll see
the story told not in a book--
the memory of you and me.

That day,
remember?
That day there by the sea?
A cool wind blowing, the soft sea groaning,
the lights bright shining as your eyes shone on me.

We ran.
The sand flew
beneath our feet,
straggling to a heartsome beat,
our hands clasped tight together.

I tripped.
You laughed,
then helped me up.
A smile upon your face.
Then off we ran, a loving sort of grace.

That night,
the icy beach.
Remember our roaring fire?
The crazy laughter of good friends,
all within our reach.

But now.
That trip is done.
Mundanity rises to take hold,
forgetfulness to mold.
I see now in your eyes--they're empty.

But do you remember?

A balmy day?
A lifetime of friendship?
A heart's sigh from me to you?
Midnight whispers,
dearer than sisters,
as all about we dream.
And love--
              --that too.

Do you remember?
A forgotten day,
a cracked old memory?
A crunchled little photograph,
tucked here inside my heart.
An old and aching memory,
a memory of you and me.
