Simple things bring joy to my life.
Happy Am I

Happy am I lying on earth’s green carpet
with the warmth of the morning sun on
my face, amused at fluffy white clouds
drifting aimlessly across a crystal blue sky.
I can’t help but smile, because happy am I
on a clear sunny day.

Happy am I listening to Kayla sing.  Her little face
radiating the joy of her song.  Head bobbing to the tune
she’s remembering while I delight in every tiny note
and incomprehensible word of a 2-year-old’s song.
I can’t help but smile, because happy am I
when Kayla sings.

Happy am I when I have my husband all to myself.
Just he and I teasing and flirting, playing and
laughing together, just chilling in each other’s arms.
Lying on his chest as he caresses my back.
I can’t help but smile, because happy am I
when he’s all mine.

Happy am I walking on the green levee, the Mississippi
lazily rolling by.  My ears filled with the jazzy sounds
of Dave Bruback’s “Take Another Five”.  A tug boat captain
pushing his load honking for the bridge operator to stop traffic.
I can’t help but smile, because happy am I
taking five on the levee.
