Reflections on a relationship
An unbroken heart I did give you
To my joy you did accept
You laughed, lived and loved with me
My doubts were not suspect

One day a cloud of gray came to be
My joy and laughter still
My tears overflowed the cloud of gray
My friend despair began the chill

My once full heart now lay in shreds
The love you claimed for me is dead
Love now replaced by cruelty born
All emotions unmoving except for scorn

A broken heart I now carry
Your job is done you did not tarry
Amidst the ruins and the mess
To look back I have been blessed

A lesson learned you did give
Scars abound my healing heart
But I’m wiser now, and will always be
Loving unconditionally, especially me.
