A poem about domestic violence.
Just because I love you

‘Just because I love you doesn’t mean I’ll love you forever’,
he said,
wiping blood and tears on his shirt.
‘These days you need a good reason to make me not treat you like dirt.’
A man has needs to make girls bleed, a
need to make them hurt.

It isn’t.
It isn’t as bad as you think.
Watch blood and teeth go down the sink.
And breathe because there’s still air in your head.
These days everything seems red.

And you know surviving and living are not the same thing;
when you know you are broken, but can’t feel a thing.
