This is a poem about a lost engagement ring, for the competition The Writers Cramp
A Ring Once Lost
You were my life, you were my soul
You were the one that made me whole
Without you, my life is bare
No-one to love, no-one to care.

If you awake, in a brave new life
Wait for me, my love, my wife

For although we never wed,
I’ll always remember what you said;
“ It may not be allowed, in law,
But you are the one I was made for.”

So I give to you your wish,
We will one day, I promise you this.

Which is why I give you back this ring,
The one you gave me in the spring.
As we strolled beneath the trees,
You got down upon your knees,

And promised me with all your heart,
We would never be apart.

So until we meet again darling,
It belongs to you; your engagement ring.
I am giving myself to you,
A love like ours is never through.

And through the years, I will wait
Always for you, my true soulmate.

When the day comes, and we kiss once more,
I will walk you through the chapel door.
And on that day, we’ll exchange bands,
Then walk away together, holding hands.

A married couple, worth all the cost
And my engagement ring, no longer lost.
