Life isn't always what we dream it to be.
A Poem a Day Trophy

Walls press upon me; each stress a burden.
Where is my castle and canopy bed?
When did my perfect prince gallop on by?
Whisper the secrets to free me from life.

No sparkling tiara rests on my head.
Ne’er shall I bathe in petals from roses.
Numb, I hide from hopeless reality.
No one to hear screams of desperation.

Inch by inch the world eats my shallow soul.
I’m being taken over by the fear.
Inside my heart beats a hollow rhythm.
Infantile dreams of Eden dissipate.

Say the sacred words to end this cruel curse.
Struggling against my own sad existence,
Sickened by the dreams I dared to hold dear.
Someone save me from myself; grasp my hand.

Open the door; guide me out of this hell.
Over mountains and forests, I will crawl.
Oh, let me breathe without strangulation,
Oxygen uncorrupted, pure as birth.

Princess of pain, I long to leave this throne.
Put behind me thoughts of lost fairy tales.
Provide the strength to conquer the battle.
Pick me up, ‘fore darkness swallows me whole.
