God bless our soldiers. May they come safely home from wherever they went.
I once held hands with a little boy
we were both so young then
he saw me crying sometime ago
he wiped a tear off of my cheek
and said

Chorus:I'm now a boy
I'll be a man
very soon I will change
into what you want me to be
trust me
love me
till the day we die

I once said I loved him
then he went to war
I hoped and prayed he'd come back home to me
letters came and letters went
telling of our love
the letters stopped coming
and I began to cry again

Chorus: I'm now a boy
I'll be a man
very soon I will change
into what you want me to be
trust me
love me
till the day we die

I saw some uniformed men at the door
I thought my man had come home
then I saw the uniform in his hands
with my lover's name
I started to cry again

I know a man who was once a boy
He now lies in Arlington
