My Godson Brandon
                    BRANDON

The boy was seven when he came into my sight,
A typical child, but bursting with life.

a plump little child, with an evil little smile, and a sharp
tongue to go with the grin. He had to be fast, or he
would never last, when the others would terrorize him.

For he was the only boy, in a house full of sisters, how I
Pitied the poor soul. Until I saw with my own eyes,
The little demon in disguise, and realized he could hold his
Own.

Now his older sister was his favorite mark, I remember the
Day that his humor sparked. I don’t know what he did to her,
But she was hot on his heels, as they ran past me he cried “help,
Burn the witch, She is casting evil spells.”

Out the back door, she did her best to chase him down, and I was
Laughing so hard as again they came around. In through the front
Door I was happy to see, that as angry as she was, he was still in the
Lead.

“Call the Peace Corps, she’s going to kill me.” He cried, hearing that
I hit the floor laughing with tears in my eyes. The next time around he
Was alone, I guess it wasn’t worth all the running, for her to break his
Bones.

He never did tell me what transpired that day, but I knew he deserved her
Wrath. For his dismembering she would find another way, that day he was
Just to fast.

He continued on this tormenting path, there was not much else to do, and
He could always run to dad. But dad wasn’t always a savior to him.
Sometimes he would sit and egg the girls on, when they made the boy
Pay for his sins.

Always creative, he believes in things he cannot see. Possessing a great open
Mind, constantly challenging me.
And as far as he is concerned, the whole world could fall away, as long as
He has a set of headphones, and a never ending list of songs to play.

A teenager now, so soon a man. Already thinks he is gods gift to women.
Proudly flexing his muscles as his sisters roll their eyes. Happy to share the
Tales of his conquests, with not enough shame and too much pride.

But he is a young man, I am proud to call my Godson. Only sometimes
Disappointed at the things that he’s done wrong.
But he will learn soon enough, what it takes to be a man. Honor, loyalty,
And a sense of pride. Work with a steady hand, and call on the humor still
Inside.

He does not always listen to me, the way he once did. I just hope he listens to
His voice of reason within. He knows the ways of right and wrong, the choice is
His to make.

I look forward to our future, to see the path his life will take.
