A poem for a man I love.
I have taken the word ‘attentive’
And put it in my pocket.
Wrapped it in tissue paper,
I’m thinking about a box.

I have taken the words ‘to heal’
And baked them into bread
So that when I eat it,
I can feel it inside of me, and
It will be a part of me eternally.

I have taken the phrase
‘would have lost you forever’
And planted it in my garden.
Where one day, it will grow
Into a beautiful flower.

I have taken the name ‘Alicia’
And listened to it over and over
So I can bring its sound with me
Wherever I go.

I have taken the words ‘means everything’
And written them on a piece of paper
So that I can look at it
And touch the words in times of sorrow.

I have taken the phrase ‘I wish we had’
And blown it into a balloon
So I can let it go.
It can fly into the sky
And land somewhere
That I will never know.
