A sample of what I call American miniatures -- some award-winning.
FIVE HAIKUS

stepping outside
into the frosty air:
first star, same old wish

Indian summer . . .
the sleeping dog growls deeply
in a cloud of gnats

where she once moved
in the vacant room
a lingering grace

cat-leap
the firefly
extinguished

fragrance of woodsmoke --
guided by my half-filled tracks
in the moonlit snow

curious lizard . . .
rejecting with such quickness
my still, human hand
