Also written for my creative writing class. Turned out interesting, I think.
That raven fluttered over him gloomily
Watching for any suspicious faces
The owner watched his bird cautiously
Scanning for any sign of disturbance in the raven's flight

When the raven was satisfied, he floated down
Landing on his owner's outstretched arm
When they were reunited
The dark bird dug the claws in
Knowing what his owner was planning next

The unlikely pair slipped into the empty house
And listened for the sound
That sound they'd heard so many nights over
They had never found it but it was there
A beating under their feet
Sometimes fast paced, others slow

The pair would sit for hours
Listening and wondering
The owner drank from his bottle and listened
Thinking of what that noise may be

One day he suddenly began to write furiously
Startling his raven to seek refuge on the mantle
Once the writing was finished, the two hurried out of that home
Never to return to listen for that mysterious sound

They never knew of that lost soul
Trapped in the basement of that very house
He'd pound whenever he heard footsteps in the house
But it seemed they never noticed it

He was wrong
But so were they
