Some loves cannot be denied despite the dangers they hold.
Cruel Mistress

She watched the raging storm
In her arms a son - just born
Tears flowed free from 'neath the lash
As bright eyes saw the brave ship crash

Her mind fills with the cries
Of men dying 'neath the skies
Churning sea with appetite
Taking lives with vengeful spite
Her mind now silent saw the men
And the lives that might have been

He remembers a night such as this
When first he felt the storm's sweet kiss
The deck beneath his feet sways
He knows well her feminine ways

He stands rooted - sure and strong
Knowing now where he belongs
She whispers soft in his mind
We are bonded - two of a kind

She fills his sails with her breath
He knows her wish - a violent death
His eyes twinkle as he smiles
Knowing his goal is but a mile
Her winds rage about his face
Now he knows 'tis a race

Her eyes watch the churning sky
In her arms a wee babe cries
The pounding sea claims her prize
Two-dozen men and their lives

Wicked laughter fills her head
Your love my dear - is dead
Her hand tightens on the rail
In her arms the wee lad wails

She knows the day must be
When he too will meet the sea
She kneels once more to pray
Be strong my son and know the way
