A wee poem I wrote... because it just sort of came to me.
Dear Friend:

When I was younger, you meant less to me,
(I mean that in the nicest way.)
You were nothing but a playmate,
A girl I saw at school each day.

You were like a favorite toy back then,
Someone who was conveniently there,
And I admit to you here,
For you, I did not truly care.

Yet.

I am not trying to hurt you,
I did indeed like you-
But friendship had a different meaning,
And I bet you felt the same about me, too.

Now, however… well, things have changed, for the both of us,
As we watch the years fly past
We’ve grown, matured,
And learned to establish stronger trust

We’ve become more loyal,
And we do more then only sharing Strawberry-Pop-Tarts…
Like talking and laughing and confiding in one another
You’ve really wormed your way into my heart!

You’ve taught me many things, my friend,
And the one that you’ve (unintentionally) repeatedly shown,
Is be careful while picking your friends…
Because they’re family you pick, all on your own.
