A poem inspired by Fortuna, a penny I found that day and my lottery-addicted mom.
She picks up a penny
Wants all that she sees
She starts off the day feeling
Sort of lucky
Is it mere selfishness, this yearning for more?
New shoes, a new house and jewelry galore!
The wheel it comes 'round, she's heard that for so many days
When will she be Fortune's favorite, the brave?
Seems all she does is daydream and play
Her highest hopes pinned to the lottery
She says she wants a better life
That's rife
With credit cards and dollar bills
Golden coins and treasure trails
The end of yet another day
Still hoping she can get away
From being poor
Will Fortune give her
All that she longs for?
