Loss of a baby, not yet born.
I wrapped my arms around you

Where I thought you might be.

They said you were gone

I knew you were gone,

But you were still inside me.

I held on tight

To my tummy and hopes of you,

It couldn’t be real, it couldn’t be true,

You weren’t ready,

But I wasn’t ready

To let go of you.

I rocked back and forth

In the white bed,

Stained red,

And my hopes flowed away.

Utter heartbreak broke me in two -

What had I done?

What could I do?

Nothing would make you stay.

“It wasn’t meant to be” means nothing -

Empty words,

Empty eyes

Empty womb.

You were my little darling,

My love, my life, my hope.

I was your mother

I was your tomb.
