A sonnet based on a young man's shallow infatuation with a goddess-like witch.
Sparkling stars strewn across a black night sky
Like so many freckles on pale white skin
The breathless wind, so like your calming sigh
Always reminds me of the deadly sin

Of lust without love that hides in my soul
That fled me when I learned who you were
But your hair, like the sea, was dark as coal
And the eyes it framed made me think you pure

Deceit was at work when they drew me in
As blue as the sky and deep as can be
Glittered with false adoration to win
And trap an affection that once was free

Power wielded is a terrible thing
And yet somehow you still make my heart sing
