A Lament to A Hazelnut Tree, by T. J. Shemaly
O Hazelnut tree come and listen
testify by thy roots above me
here lies my heart where it is hidden
dusted by the dust and gloomy

O Tree of the first time when
when we met and smiled and did sit
did you testify not that time when
when hand in hand we did go and went

Yes, take the tears of this eye forever
what for I need them now and then
blooming you are despite the weather
and here my fragile heart lies broken

O Tree once gave the life before
the life got sick of my life in this life
have you forgotten what happened afore
then my mind keeps a record of this life

The laughter was recorded in your bark
and there where we drew our dreams
ask your leaves if you dare then to ask
did they not fall after my shouts and screams?

My destiny it is O my beloved tree
to lose after the finding of what was found
Is it me or simply I could not see
but then look with me down to this ground

My sadness shall go and will
and going it will be
with my tears falling still
and falling they will be

O Hazelnut of my life and this heart
by thy roots did I bury the sweet
and from here shall we go and part
one to the ground, and I to the street
