A persona speaks to another after nearly losing her. More of a soliloquy than actual poem

Shatterpoint

Who would have known -
All these while, hidden
You were perhaps the true one.

I cannot fathom you
Are you my Light
Or Dark Side?

Tell me, I crave to know
You're both hero and villain
How can you be
Friend and foe?

I see it now
I've protected you so well
So buried, so fortified
Even more than I -
That I am.

Your takeover was Subtle
How could I have not seen it?
How could I have missed it?
But you have always been Subtle

For you are me, and I am you.

Yet...

Forgive me, I did not know
How inter-woven we've become
So much that you - the other side of me.

So close, so close
Only by trial will prove us all
Dawned light on how truly
Important you are

You are my shatterpoint
And when Darkness fell
I feared it was our death
No, I feared little for mine -
I feared for you.

That you had become such a vital
Part of me, I couldn't lose you

In my frenzy I was confused
Afraid, instant survival instincts
Determination, never retreat
Ready at will, but cracking within

But I have you
For how long I do not know
I'll keep you safe with me
I'll make you part of me - you are
If but the only thing to require

A separation, a choice
Who would I give up?
Who would I become?

No doubt I loved my beloved,
I do.
Yet you...I created you just as
I was created.

I cannot know what I will do.

You are my shatterpoint.

~

*Title inspired by Matthew Stover's novel, Shatterpoint

A/n: I wrote this after almost losing all of my in-progress stories due to computer woes...it was a total emotional rollercoaster because I put myself into the main character of those stories. Thankfully, I managed to save everything.
