Observance of the social scene
                  The Party

Wind chimes blowing in the night air
Ice tinkling against a glass
Laughter ringing in my ears
As I quietly observe the mass.

Small groups standing about
Each a party in itself
Here, it’s “One for the Road”
There, a toast to someone’s health.

Silently, I stand and watch,
As conversation floats through the air
Of stocks and yachts and travel abroad
No one has a care.

All I see are surface things
Diamonds, Rubies, Silver and Gold
But, what is beneath the glitter
What is the color of their soul…
