The Ballroom, by T. J.

then, the cups were clinkin'
and the drunk men were singin'
about hopes for tomorrow,
and the weather that night

but I was a loner
away into a corner
sobbin' and countin' my sorrow,
with her smile in my sight

And the ball room began swingin'
all the merry men, with no troubles go
They court the damsels while winkin'
all with the manners of go-happy-go

everyone was dancin'
in happiness while laughin'
careless for what in morrow,
or what comes by night

but I was a loner
away into a corner
sobbin' and countin' my sorrow,
with her smile in my sight

Here she comes, like the flower
surrounded like the last rose in the valley
And all bent in respect for her
that damsel named Sarah, from Offaly

all men runnin' and dyin'
to meet the one sweet charmin'
all were slaves and did follow,
the smile of her delight

but I was a loner
away into a corner
sobbin' and countin' my sorrow,
with her smile in my sight

Wait 'til I get me a fortune
sure I'll set sail to the England of gold
Then sure her smile I'll be catchin'
and her silken fair hands I'll kiss and hold

then none is a matchin'
if money I'll be hatchin'
my dreams surely will follow,
of a future so bright!

but I was a loner
away into a corner
sobbin' and countin' my sorrow,
with her smile in my sight

Years passed and I am back to green
lookin' for a sweet named Sarah McMeekin
But the news got me dead and green
the lady now is a mother of ten

but I was a loner
away into a corner
sobbin' and countin' my sorrow,
with her smile in my sight!
