A bit of an exageration maybe
I lie on the thick pillow
and springs beneath my hollow body
searching the blackness of the hole in the wall
for enough meaning to exist another day.
I listen to the children
playing down the hall
but laughter is only a memory
of a feeling felt in times past.

I've learned much today.

Faith is a dagger
waiting for the moment to penetrate the heart
and twist.
Hope is a boulder chopped into stones
to be thrown by the enemy
to bruise your body and break your will.
Dreams are a cruel joke
fed with the spoon of good intentions
to induce the feeling of failure.

So, I lie here motionless
no faith
no hope
no dreams
searching the laughter and the darkness
for another reason to live.
