Contemplating what the waves might say
Shore Talk

“From where do you come?” I asked the wandering waves as they broke upon the shore.

“From the center of the ocean where we are…
silky on the sea,
dancing in light steps,
softly whispering,
gently rolling,
sweetly sighing,
ever reaching
to caress the gentle winds.”

“Why do you thunder now?” I asked the waves as they broke upon the shore.

“We cry because here at the sea’s edge we are ….
wave-wrecked,
sand shattered
rock pummeled,
river pushed,
broken, battered,
our blue eyes blinded,
until we see no more.”

“What can be done?” I cried.

But the waves could only roar.
