About an astronauts experience on launch day
A calm demeanour before a firey storm
Excited anticipation of the blackness beyond
A white knight in cloth, steel and glass
Heroic endevour for mankinds advance
A dream of generations long laboured, finnally being realised
Going where angels fear to tread and fools play at being god's
Time only to wait the binary of go, no go
Hours of checks and dry humour of focused, stern minds
Silence.....a slow rumble
Then it came
Two minutes of hell in an illuminated tumble dryer
Outdated, dangerous and lacking any creature comforts
A pressing pain and a head that throbs
Then the euphoria of a strange situation
A slapstick of unique perspective
And now a reward for the toil-Ney, THE reward
To gaze on the big blue marble as if we were angels
Like servants of our lord we stare in awe at his creation
Our garden of eden-so majestic she glides
Judgeing our mistreatment of her lands
tears for her
A new found respect sharpens our guilt
