I wrote this about six months after a good friend of mine died.
And when I saw you there lying,
Dying in your girlfriends arms,
I knew, I knew you were gone,
Stronger than during that long-short car-ride
To see you.
I felt it then, I knew it then.
But I didn't believe it then.
I held their hands, I held my arms around,
Them.
I looked down at the half-empty shell of you,
And looking into their tear-blurred eyes,
I told them
That is was all going to be alright.
I knew you weren't going to make it,
So I chose those careful, fragile words,
Not promising them your life,
But your relief, release.
I couldn't bear to say it out right,
So
I
Gave
Them
Hope
I blessed your body, and searched for your soul,
And as I said,
The final farewell,
I asked you,
Never, ever, ever leave her side...
