On the frustration of reading Shakespheare in class
30 Lines

I dare say the teacher done fail
To make fer me head ner tal
A verses writ in oldie times
With words that sound like stupid crimes
When in class I reads out loud.

I means gee whiz what do ya do
When faced with thee, thou, and thew
And all sorts of stuff, well, stuffed between
As if old words makes things better seem
When I reads in class out loud.

It’s not that I’m a simple folk
Old words to me are just a joke
Why cain’t ya write in senses plain
So nobody’s ever got to esplain
When I reads in class out loud.

It’s like some college type a guy
Decided he’d fun me -- make me lie
When I reads ol’ Willies verse
And tries p‘tend I cain converse
When I reads in class out loud

Make talkin’ plain and I won’ gripe
And kids won’ haffa getta sripe
On their rears ‘cause their ears
Make no sense a words -- bringin’ tears
When I reads in class out loud.

If I’s write this poem to all them folk
They’s gonna really get the joke
‘cause I writes as goodas Willie did
And no teacher needs ta flip her lid
When I reads (my poem) in class out loud
