Forget about when Harry met Sally. What about when Gandhi met Mother Teresa?
D i s s o l v i n g  i n t o  t h e  S k y

Forget about
when Harry met Sally.
What about
when Gandhi met Mother Theresa?

He was meditating
on love and holiness
and his soul
put out a call –

She showed up shining,
knocking on the door
of his ascetic cave.
Oh, it’s you, he said,
and invited her in
for tea.

Later, he was breathing
in her ear.
She was moaning softly.
But – ,
he said,
Aren’t you married to God?
She laughed.
Yes.
Then how can you be with me?
he asked.
Who do you think you are?
she replied.
And who do you think I am?

I am a sinner, he said,
Striving for perfection.
Then kiss me again, she said.
Perhaps this time
You will not miss the mark.

When God meets God,
our breath
carries us to heaven.
Our destination
is to arrive
exactly
where we are,
dissolving into the union
of All that Is with
nothing nothing nothing . . .

I’m afraid I will lose myself,
he said.
Of course, she said.
So am I,
but someone
has whispered in my ear
that self is nothing
that we can lose.
Forgetting and
remembering
who we are
is a sacred joke.
Do you remember
how to laugh?

All is God
and
All is Nothing
and we are God
in the heart of the world,
dissolving into the sky.
