inspired by thinking about thoughts, work in progress. looking for constructive criticism.
Thoughts are clear, mysterious and true,
but theres no telling what they do.
Beneath the veil of a simple eye,
unknown to all they multiply.

imprisoned and yet somehow free,
infused with sorrow, and with glee.
They can grow, thrive and expand,
conquer that which conquers land.
Even he who calls them his own,
can make no claim to their throne.

Their power seems to be complete,
immune to what we call defeat.
For even that is just a term,
coined to make the masses squirm.
Perhaps a semblance of control,
the only one to take its toll.
what we can't stop we can direct,
cunning with our intellect.
So what then can reign them in?
The answer seems to be hidden.

Yet impossible the search is not,
If only we'd turn to the thought.
Simply listen to what they say,
or quickly live to rue the day.
Although the cause of all this fright,
they are a source of deep insight,
And in that my friend the answer lies,
dangerous yes, but also wise.

A force as strong as it is old,
we've managed to survive i'm told.
Their influence on everything,
until this morn, noon or evening.
It's up to each and every mind
to constrain, preserve, honour and bind.
The thoughts that will someday bring change,
to civilizations, simple and strange.
For after all they can bring bliss,
how do I know? They told me this.
