This is a short poem I wrote a long time ago
As I walk out onto the snow covered plain...
I look out and begin to remember...
My mind drifts...
To a time long forgotten...
Of an age forgotten by man...

I close my eyes...
I can hear them once more...
Faces...
Voices...
Laughter...

The city of my youth...
The empire of my birth...
Mighty...
Powerful...
Hailed to stand for all time...

Now as I look out onto the empty plain...
All that remains...
Are my memories...
My only companion...
A lone winter's breeze...

The man in this poem is a fictional character that I created many years ago. He is immortal and was born a few thousand years before the rise of the Babylonian Empire, and here he is remembering the town in which he was born. Born into a once great empire that existed before recorded history, he's now the only one that even remembers it existed.
