poem about memories
The miles slide slowly by
and Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters
come on the radio singing "Everlong"...
sounding like he's too close to the mike
and singing down into a pipe.

"Breathe out...
so I could breathe you in...
Hold you in"

and I am there in your big bed
next to you as you sleep.
It's about 5 in the morning
and that big goose down comforter
is way too warm for me.

As I lay it back softly,
trying not to wake the dog and cat and you.
You snuggle over next to me,
and the soft exhalation of your breathing
is a cooling caress on my skin.

In a cracking, little girl voice
you say "morning".
"Sleep well?" I ask,
and you say,
"I always sleep good when you are here...
watching over me."

I roll over and into you
like slipping into the deep
and calm waters of the ocean.
The blue green light in your room
like the waters closing over me,
pulling me down..
and in that moment...
I am infinitely happy,
and blissfully unaware
of all that is to come...

and big Dave Grohl sings,

"and I wonder
when I sang along with you,
If anything could ever feel this real forever.
If anything could ever be this good again.
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
you got to promise not to stop when I say when"
