about a friend, a dear friend, who is lost. like so many others.
a friend stood staring
across the burning haze i saw
and i began to understand
before me stood ablaze
a bridge i'd crossed some time before
and beneath the black sky raised
smoldering clouds, like i'd never seen

before this moment in time
i had never torched a thing
but unwittingly i had dropped
a lit lighter, a trifle thing
while crossing across said bridge
i suppose i should've known
when a friend stands across the waters
the bridge away reeks of gas, and so

i stood gazing at my friend
there on the bank away
and a waved a distant goodbye wave
and sighed, and cried
i had forgot their name.
