A spider gets ready to feed
Moths taste best, followed closely by beetles and roaches. One juicy specimen has been set aside for this night. I traverse my web like a skilled tightrope walker, coming upon the delectable morsel, wrapped with silk, suspended above cool grasses. Days have passed since chemical reaction changed insect to liquid. Mandibles quiver, anticipation grows. Long legs grasp ends of an ovoid, protein-filled bundle. Fangs sink in. Hot summer evenings make bugs more frenzied, less cautious. Many victims fall into spiders' deadly traps. Soon, food may be scarce, meals taken as they come. But tonight, we feast on seasonal fruits.
