A poem about forgiveness and aid along life's road!

COULD YOU, WOULD YOU - O CHRIST?

Could YOU come for me tonight, O CHRIST?
I remember once when my Mother did.
I had run away, was just around the
Corner from my house, but was so lost
I stood there trembling, and crying out.
She came and took my hand and said
She wasn’t angry anymore, that she forgave
All I’d done, and had come to take me home.
But, since the night my Mother died,
No one cares if I should cry,
And she can not come to get me this time.
Could YOU come instead, O CHRIST?

Would YOU watch out for me tonight, O CHRIST?
Watch with tender care from YOUR heavenly
Window, over this road on which I’m traveling.
Lost am I, a little lamb stumbling along,
Who is trying to seek a safe way home.
At the nearest window looking
Would my mother be, if she could, I mean.
But she is gone now, and can not watch for me,
As I walk alone on this lonely road,
That I hope is leading home.
The truth is though, I don’t really
Know where it is leading.
So, would YOU keep watching, O CHRIST?

Could YOU, Would YOU
Plead for me tonight, O CHRIST?
Ask GOD in Heaven to pity me
And lead me toward YOUR light?
I don’t know where I’m headed,
I’m just going on, all alone and trembling.
For all I know, I may be just around
The corner from my eternal home.
I think I am too old for crying though,
Like I did so long ago, so I’m just
Pushing on, on this life’s road.
Still, I believe my Mother is pleading for me,
Up there in Heaven, I mean.
Asking that I be forgiven.
Praying YOU will do for me what she
No longer can and watch
Over her little lamb.
Maybe, even go and seek him,
Whose time to journey home for
Good, may be just around the next bend.
Could YOU, Would YOU then,
Plead for me - O CHRIST?

Be THOU not angry with me tonight, O CHRIST.
But come to where I am -
THEE, the Loving Shepard,
Seeing me, the Little Lamb,
And claim me as YOUR own again.
If not for me, then for a mother’s love.
I am sure YOU know the kind of
Mother’s love I’m speaking of.
Come and take my hand and say
That YOU'RE not angry, that YOU forgive me,
And all that I have done, and come to lead me home.
Could YOU, Would YOU, please - O CHRIST?
