A poem describing death and loss in a human way.
The butts in the gutter flow down to the drain
The sky ever-changes, and nothing’s the same
The trees wilt and blossom
Like set time in a game
And sometimes I think
I could see you again

If only I just txt you,
You’ll answer after long
And if only I walked over
You’ll have been there all along

But there's a distinction
In the world that I know
And this certain place
Is all riddled with holes

Holes are like memory
They aren’t easy to see
And when you do its like stars
That fall into the sea

There's things you’ll never do
And people you’ll never meet
There's infinite moments
That you’ll never be
There's lovers you’ll miss
And sunlight in the stream
There's day of boredom
And friends numbered three
There’ll be no more potential
And no more to say
For all you have shown us
Is all that will stay
The temple is empty
And everyone’s gone home
And your memory is shattered
Between the peoples that know

There's empty places
Voids of thought
Like black holes in night that
Your memory gets lost
There's people who’ll miss you
Who wont know they do
And places that will never see you
And they’ll miss that stuff too

There's pot you’ll never smoke,
And booze you’ll never drink
Pastels you’ll never touch and
Quills you’ll never ink
There's brushes and crayons and pencils
That wont know your touch
There's only an impression
Of what you left off

The universe knows many
None are the same
And soon someone will know you
Twice and again

But for those left behind there's
Nothing but grief
Oh please just once more, once more time again!

Our calls go unanswered
And we wither in shame
To ask of the universe
What's not ours to gain

The world just is
And that’s all it shall be
And we’ll stumble and gather
From shore to the sea

We’ll meet friends and lose them
Our strings will all cross
We’ll walk the prints of our ancestors
Who all rallied and lost

So rail at the earth, and the sky and the sea,
Ponder the significance
Of what might not be
And leave town for a day just to see what you see
Never imagine that this is all we’ll ever be
