Gilgamesh

Cuneiform dreams slowly peer out
From yellowed tablets in future tombs
Rich and fabled in decadent distance
Watching arms wither as they reach
From darkened corridors fruitlessly
Only to withdraw with hollow fists
Clenched in stung rejection with
Their unanswered, unspoken hopes
Echoless in mute sarcophagi
