a pollution poem written for a contest

" Pure Waters "

Pure waters fell from high above,
so cool and crystalline.
In mystic grace, they tumbled down
and mingled with the wind.

Through the rocky chasm charged
a billion gleaming drops,
for gravity would carry them
but there the magic stops.

For down the stream a factory
was dumping toxic waste
to save an extra dollar,
they covered barrels in haste.

Now Mother Earth began to cry
but could not wash away
all the filth that man had dumped
and left there everyday.

Over time the barrels would leak
into the porous ground;
a killing blow to Nature,
earth bleeding all around.

Into the stream from spoiled lands,
the toxic sludge would leach,
then all the way to great blue seas
man's poisons then would reach,

So on the brightest summer days
man's children could not swim
for a billion tiny droplets,
were polluted all by him.

He paid the highest price it seems
as earth became a grave
and everything he buried then;
now master of the slave.
