While hiking along a lakside trail, I took a picture that later inspired this poem.
Across the lake
there is a tree,
Celebrating
before it sleeps.

It's foliage,
a vivid orange,
glowing brightly.
Magnificent.

Behind it stand
taller fellows,
their leaves still green,
still in their prime.

I would rather
be that tree, which
perhaps has not
the tallest trunk,

Who's colors shine
Brilliantly,
First to reflect
in the water.
