Prompt challenge, 5/2004. "Last Night I Danced with a Stranger" copyrighted by K. Hall

Dancing in the rain
Water falling on my companions
Darkened sky leads the way
Her scarf flies off

Flowers in the breezy rain
Chasing for the piece of night with petals
The three of us run

Stooping to retrieve the water soaked square
A pair of black heels enters our vision
Looking up not really seeing

Hair blends with the sky
It's like the water does not touch it
Featureless face invites us in
Following the noiseless heels on the wet sidewalk

Silver candleholders provide the only light
Right before the thunder sounds
A smell of lightning pervades the room
Illuminating cards spread about many tables

The light casts shadows on the unknown's face
Blending silence of steps with the dark of void
Turning, spinning around, a gift is offered

"Take this book
It will answer all questions."
Small and white, Dancing with letters and color
I take the unknown offering

The door opens
A gust of wind smothers the light
The book cannot be read
Darkness falls

Silver shines once more
But our host is not there
The scarf is on my companion once again

Opening the book
Not enough time
An awakening from the dreamland of mine
I roll over and the book, small and white is there, with color:
