Mercy for the earth.
"True, we are all going to die. But, we can choose to live our
lives as free men... and women in a bold new world."
the speech had been broadcast in all languages to all the
countries of the world. It was on replay. Grant observered the
well dressed man on his view screen, making this final plea.
He cleaned his antennae, with an antiseptic napkin. Well,
        Grant wasn't human.

There were no humans. The earth was a massive junkyard.
"Hun! Would you look at those dumps! There's a lifetime of
food!" Grant clicked. Grant was an anthropod cockroach.
What was a sad spoiled gray planet, was a world of tasty
scraps and raw matterial to Grant's tiny black eyes.

Lily brought some tuna cans up to Grant. "Who's that?"
She asked, staring at the bald man. The bald man had
the tips of his fingers pressed under his chin as he continued
his impassioned speech about over population and pollution.
"I guess he's a Queen or something like it." Grant shook his
four arms and adjusted his scavenging equipment. "I think I
can refine that nuclear waste into proton fuel. Oh! Is that
peanut butter?!" Grant was too excited to notice the bald man
        crying on the video replay.

Grant nibbled the peanut butter he had extracted, "Hmmmmmm.
Hunnn! Play some Frank Sinatra. And I did it myyyyy wayyyy!"
Grant chuckled. "I want some more olive oil for our babies." Lily
clicked affectionately. "O.K. I'll circle around Brooklyn."
he knew she must be obeyed.

"The notion that space travel will save us from extinction ignores
our own self distructive nature.. We do not have the resourses to
wander in the vastness of space... A new race must evolve.
We have the means and determination to survive." the bald man
continued and held up a cockroach: "This is our legacy!"
Grant and Lily stared a the video screen. Lily rubbed her antennae.
        "Wow. That's weird." clicked Grant.

Lily got her olive oil. Grant nibbled his peanut butter and pondered
the broadcast they had witnessed. "I guess you just don't know
what you'll find at the dump." he clicked to Lily.
