If this poem saves someone, then I could not achieve anything greater.
I wanted to die,
But life wouldn't let me.
It would have been so easy,
A handfull of pills, a mishap at the wheel,
Anything and everything to end the way that I feel.
But I felt a flow, a pulse, a surge,
Stifling in my throat the words of a dirge.
I wanted to die,
But life wouldn't let me.

I wanted to die,
But hope wouldn't let me.
Caught up in the dark,
I sought for an end to this painful existance.
But instead I was held back by this compelling resistance.
Which came in the gloom with a sudden spark,
I wanted to die,
But hope wouldn't let me.

I wanted to die,
But faith wouldn't let me.
Convincing myself,
It will be better when my life has ended.
Yet, what I believed challenged what I intended.
And the bottle of pills remained on the medicine shelf.
I wanted to die,
But faith wouldn't let me.

I wanted to die,
But love wouldn't let me.
I wanted to be cold and in death's arms numb.
No longer caring of what else was to come.
But love rose like the sun at the end of night,
Resurrecting, warming, restoring my sight.
Speaking in whispers that no matter what happens,
One day all will be made right.
So now I want to live,
Because love has let me.
